Hydrogen Electrolysers

Hydrogen production through water electrolysis is a rapidly growing technology for industrial gas supply and green hydrogen generation. Electrolyser systems use electrical energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, providing a clean and efficient source of hydrogen for a wide range of industrial applications.

Types of Hydrogen Electrolysers

There are three principal electrolyser technologies used in hydrogen production:

  • PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) electrolysers
  • Alkaline electrolysers
  • Solid oxide electrolysers

PEM electrolysers are modular and scalable hydrogen generation systems designed for efficient clean hydrogen production. Their fast response capability makes them highly suitable for integration with renewable energy systems.

Electrolyser systems are increasingly used worldwide for:

  • Green hydrogen production
  • Industrial hydrogen generation
  • Renewable energy integration
  • Energy storage applications
  • Industrial process gas supply

PEM electrolysers are particularly effective when operating alongside intermittent renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power.

Hydrogen Purification for Electrolyser Systems

Hydrogen generated by electrolysers contains trace levels of oxygen and moisture which must be removed to achieve the purity levels required for industrial use and gas distribution systems.

At Anco Catalysts Ltd our deoxidiser catalyst systems are used to remove oxygen from hydrogen gas streams before final drying and purification.

Following catalytic oxygen removal, the hydrogen stream is passed through a dryer system to eliminate residual moisture and improve overall gas quality.

Benefits of Hydrogen Purification

  • Improved hydrogen purity
  • Increased operational safety
  • Protection of downstream equipment
  • Stable gas quality for storage and distribution
  • Reliable long-term purification performance

Oxygen Removal – Hydrogen Deoxidisers

Hydrogen produced by alkaline electrolysers typically contains:

  • Potassium hydroxide
  • Water vapour
  • Trace oxygen

Residual oxygen must be removed to maintain process efficiency, protect equipment and achieve required gas purity specifications.

Anco Catalysts Deoxidiser Catalyst Range

Anco Catalysts Ltd supplies specialist palladium-based catalysts developed for oxygen removal from hydrogen streams in industrial electrolyser purification systems.

Available Catalyst Grades

  • DS2 Deoxidiser Catalyst
  • DSL2 Deoxidiser Catalyst

The DSL2 catalyst offers a lower bulk density, allowing reduced catalyst loading requirements within the catalyst vessel while maintaining efficient oxygen removal performance.

Benefits of DSL2 Catalyst

  • Lower catalyst weight requirements
  • Reduced vessel loading
  • Cost-effective purification performance
  • Optimised for electrolyser purification systems
  • Reliable industrial operating performance

Our catalyst systems are designed for dependable hydrogen purification applications requiring consistent oxygen removal and long service life.

Quality & Manufacturing Standards

Anco Catalysts Ltd operates to internationally recognised standards including:

  • ISO 9001 — Quality Management
  • ISO 14001 — Environmental Management
  • ISO 45001 — Occupational Health & Safety

These certifications reflect our commitment to quality manufacturing, environmental responsibility and safe operational practices.
